Black Cherry Burl BowlBlack Cherry Burl Bowl

No.711-28 Black Cherry Burl Bowl $175
2.5x6.5" Uniform and dense burl grain is contrasted by the scorched, blackened interior.  I was going for texture on this bowl.  The surfaces are unsanded to show the unique texture created by the hand tools I use to shape each bowl.

No.711-27 Sugar Maple Bowl $150
3.5x8.5" This bowl is from a series I made from a large old maple that adorned the yard of what was likely among the original hill farms in Cambridge, VT.  At the time I collected the wood, little did I know that I would soon find my own home just a few doors down the road.

Black cherry bowl

$700
7x17.5" This large bowl echoes the exceptional size of the black cherry tree from which it was turned.  Large cherry is rare in Vermont.  This one was growing along a field edge and had a spreading crown of foliage which is hinted at by the large area of sapwood in the bowl.  I centered the work to provide a balanced grain pattern which draws the focus to the center of the piece.  This bowl has substantial presence and will make a beautiful centerpiece or serving bowl that will feed many.

No.711-29 Curly Red Maple Bowl $250
5x10.5"  This wood was harvested from a small family forest in my town to improve the growing conditions for maple syrup production.  After the landowner split the first piece for firewood he realized that this tree had grown very prized curly grain and my phone rang shortly thereafter.  This bowl is also adorned with a burned groove to delineate the beaded rim from the bowl's body and a comet-like streak of color indicating the proximity of a historical maple syrup tap.
